A heavyweight bout between former division champion Andrei Arlovski and surging contender Tai Tuivasa took place during tonight’s UFC 225 main card in Chicago.

Round one begins and both men appear happy to stand and bang early on. Left hands connect for both fighter. Tai with a hard low kick. Arlovski responds with one of his own. Andrei with a jab. Tuivasa chases after him and wins Andrei trips and falls to the floor. Tai winds up in full mount. He postures up and looks to rain down punches but Andrei scrambles and gets back to his feet. Arlovski on the move now. He presses Tai against the cage. Tuivasa breaks free. Both men begin to stand and trade. Arlovski lands a nice right hand. That landed flush. Tai retreats and Arlovski is quick to move in. The fighters clinch and then break. The horn sounds to end round one.

Round two begins and Arlovski lands a pair of right hands over the top. Tai fires back with shots of his own but they fall short. Arlovski with another nice punch, this time a left. Tuivasa comes forward and presses Andrei against the cage. Arlovski breaks free and begins firing punches. He lands a double jab and then a right hand. Tai is busted up. Still, he fires back with shots of his own. Tuivasa with a hard low kick. Both men trade low kicks now. Tai rushes in with a flurry. Andrei gets tagged but grabs a hold of Tai and presses him up against the cage. Andrei with a momentary takedown but Tai is almost instantly back to his feet. Tai with an accident eye poke and the action is stopped. Arlovski is given time to recover and we restart. Andrei with a low kick. He misses with a spinning back fist. He lands a low kick and then misses with a right hand. Round two comes to an end.

Round three begins and Tai lands a low kick. Andrei retreats and then replies with one of his own. Andrei circles and then lands a low kick followed by another kick to the body. Tuivasa responds with a jab to the body. Andrei fires back with a low kick. Both men are firing punches now. This could result in a knockdown. Tai continues to press forward but Arlovski is doing a good job of countering. Tuivasa is going to have to do something here. He continues to press the action but Arlovski is avoiding anything to serious. Andrei with a jab. He retreats and circles. Round three comes to an end.
