Two title fights were officially announced by the UFC on Friday at their 25th Anniversary Press Conference in New York.
Former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos and Colby Covington will meet at UFC 225 for the interim welterweight title. Initial reports came out that the two were going to meet at UFC 224 in Rio de Janeiro but it is now confirmed the two will meet in Chicago on June 9.
Although the current UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has made it known that he is targeting a return in July, dos Anjos and Covington will be meeting in June. The winner of the interim title fight between dos Anjos and Covington will likely be fighting Woodley later in the year.
Also officially announced at the presser was the UFC bantamweight title fight between champion T.J. Dillashaw and former champion Cody Garbrandt. The two will meet in an immediate rematch at UFC 227 in Los Angeles on August 4.
Dillashaw and Garbrandt last fought in their title fight against one another at UFC 217 in November. Garbrandt lost the UFC bantamweight title in his first title defense after winning the belt in an impressive title fight performance win over Dominick Cruz. Dillashaw reclaimed the belt back from Garbrandt after losing it to Cruz in a closely contested fight at UFC Fight Night 81 back in January 2016.
