UFC 222 Live Results

Tonight’s UFC 222 pay-per-view event was expected to be headlined by a featherweight title fight between current champ Max Holloway and top contender Frankie Edgar.

Unfortunately for fight fans, the Hawaiian champion suffered a leg injury and was forced to pull out of his highly anticipated title fight with “The Answer”.

With that news, the promotion was forced to find a new event headliner on short-notice for the March 3 fight card in Las Vegas.

In the end, the UFC convinced current women’s featherweight champion Cris Cyborg to help save the UFC 222 card by accepting a fight with Invicta FC bantamweight title holder Yana Kunitskaya.

Cyborg was last seen in action at December’s UFC 219 event, where she scored a unanimous decision victory over former women’s bantamweight title holder Holly Holm.

Meanwhile, Yana Kunitskaya was most recently seen in action at Invicta FC 25 where she captured the promotions vacant bantamweight title by scoring a unanimous decision win over Raquel Pa’aluhi.

As for the aforementioned UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, “The Answer” will still compete on tonight’s fight card when he throws down with surging division contender Brian Ortega in a non-title bout.

Edgar is currently riding a two-fight win streak, his latest being a second-round TKO victory over Yair Rodriguez at May’s UFC 211 event in Dallas.

Meanwhile, Ortega recently extended his record to a perfect 13-0 by scoring a submission victory over perennial division contender Cub Swanson this past December.
