Last weekend, the UFC returned to the combat sports Mecca of Madison Square Garden with the ridiculously stacked UFC 217. The card went down as one of the absolute best in the long and illustrious history of the UFC.
In the UFC 217 main event, we saw former UFC welterweight king Georges St-Pierre return from a four-year hiatus to battle UFC middleweight champ Michael Bisping. In spite of his layoff and size disadvantage, St-Pierre achieved this epic feat, choking Bisping unconscious with a rear-naked choke in the the third to become one of just four men to win UFC titles in two divisions.
In the co-main event, meanwhile, we saw former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw reclaim the title he once owned by knocking out highly regarded champion Cody Garbrandt with a second-round salvo. This outcome occured after nearly a year of trash talk between the two arch rivals.
Before Dillashaw toppled Garbrandt, another title changed hands, as dominant UFC strawweight queen Joanna Jedrzejczyk was put down by a first-round punch from the unheralded Rose Namajunas.
Other highlights of the card, finally, included big wins from fighters like Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, who defeated Jorge Masvidal, Paulo Costa, who smashed Johny Hendricks, James Vick, who clobbered Joe Duffy, and Ovince Saint Preux, who levelled Corey Anderson with a thudding kick to the dome.
Now that the stacked UFC 217 card is in the rear-view, the UFC has released some awesome slow motion highlights of it, which can be viewed in the Fight Motion video at the top of this post.
