Athlete outfitting pay for UFC 212: Aldo and Holloway net $40K

Max Holloway UFC 212

Last night, the UFC made a triumphant return to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with UFC 212, an exciting 12-fight card.

In the main event, Hawaii’s  Max Holloway sent a shockwave through the featherweight division, braving a bit of early adversity to defeat formerly dominant champion Jose Aldo by third-round TKO. With this win, Aldo claimed undisputed featherweight gold, and improved his win-streak to a jaw-dropping eleven straight. Aldo, meanwhile, loses for just the second time in UFC and WEC competition.

In the co-main event, meanwhile, the strawweight division’s number-one-ranked fighter Claudia Gadelha scored a blowout submission win over number-two-ranked fighter and recent number-one-contender Karolina Kowalkiewicz.

Elsewhere on the main card, we watched Brazilian MMA legend Vitor Belfort scored a crucial but controversial win over fellow veteran Nate Marquard, Paulo Borrachinha score a nice stoppage win over Oluwale Bamgbose, and Yancy Medeiros take out the once hyped Erick Silva.

At the moment, the purses for this 12-fight card have not yet been disclosed. We do, however, know how much the 24 fighters on the UFC 212 lineup took home for wearing Reebok.

Under the UFC’s deal with Reebok, fighters are paid based on the amount of fights they’ve had in the UFC’s Octagon, and in the Zuffa-owned eras of Strikeforce (April 2011 and after) and WEC (January 2007 and after). Champions and title challengers, however, are paid $40,000 and $30,000 respectively, regardless of their experience in the aforementioned promotions. These are the two highest payouts possible under this UFC-Reebok partnership.

Under this framework, Aldo and Holloway pocketed the maximum amount possible under this UFC-Reebok deal, as both entered the fight with UFC belts around their waists. Other big earners were Vitor Belfort and Nate Marquardt, who pocketed $20,000 each.

Here’s a full rundown of the Reebok figures for UFC 212 (via MMAJunkie.com).
