Athlete outfitting pay for UFC 210: Cormier leads payout, Mousasi and Weidman get $10K each

Gegard Mousasi returns at Bellator 200

On Saturday night, the UFC touched down in Buffalo, New York with UFC 210 – a fun, but controversy-riddled 13-fight card.

In the main event, we saw UFC light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier defend his title with a second-round submission of an old foe in Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. With this win, he set himself up for battles with streaking contender Jimi Manuwa, and perhaps, heated rival Jon Jones.

In the co-main event, meanwhile, Gegard Mousasi scored a chaotic, TKO win over former middleweight champ Chris Weidman. With this controversial win, Mousasi burst into middleweight title contention, while Weidman falls onto a three-fight losing streak – all of which came by way of knockout or TKO.

The rest of the main card, finally, saw Cynthia Calvillo submit Pearl Gonzales, Thiago Alves outgun Patrick Cote, and Charles Oliveira score an abrupt submission win over Will Brooks.

At the moment, the salaries for this card are not yet known. We do, however, know how much the card’s 26 fighters took home through the UFC’s oft-criticized outfitting deal with sports apparel giant Reebok.

Under the UFC’s deal with Reebok, fighters are paid based on the amount of fights they’ve had in the UFC’s Octagon, and in the Zuffa-owned eras of Strikeforce (April 2011 and after) and WEC (January 2007 and after). Champions and title challengers, however, are paid $40,000 and $30,000 respectively, regardless of their experience in the aforementioned promotions. These are the two highest payouts possible under this UFC-Reebok partnership.

Under this framework, the card’s biggest winners were Cormier and Rumble, who took home $40,000 and $30,000 respectively. The next biggest earners, meanwhile, were Alves and Cote, who pocketed $20,000 apiece. Here’s a full rundown of the Reebok payout for UFC 210 (figures via MMAJunkie.com).
