Holly Holm discusses UFC 208 loss: I think it warrants a rematch

Holly Holm

Last night, the UFC touched down beautiful Brooklyn, New York, for the first time ever with UFC 208. On the same night the organization made its debut in the borough, it also crowned its first ever female featherweight champion.

It crowned this new champ by pitting former women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm against kickboxing specialist Germaine De Randamie. After five rounds of action, which saw De Randamie win the first half of the fight, and Holm steal the momentum down the stretch, the judges awarded the decision – and therefore the crown – to De Randamie.

Naturally, this loss – especially given how close it was – left Holm feeling pretty unhappy. All the same, the former champ attended her obligatory UFC 208 post-fight press conference to address the fight and its controversial outcome.

“The fight could have gone either way,”A bruised and battered Holm said of the judges’ decision. “I felt like I had three rounds, but I also had her rocked twice and didn’t capitalize on it, and that’s my own fault.”

“I think it warrants a rematch,” she continued. “When you have more than half the people saying the fight should have gone the other way, usually that warrants a rematch. So that would be awesome.”

Holm then commented on the two instances in which De Randamie threw shots after the bell.

“Well, yeah [it was intentional],” she said. “If it’s one shot after the bell after a combo, that’s an accident. But I still think I could have won the fight on my own.”

Finally, the former bantamweight queen touched on her next move. Given that she’s now on a three-fight losing-streak, she said she’ll take whoever the UFC is prepared to offer her.

“I’m sitting in a spot where my last three fights, I’m 0-3, so I’ll take whatever they’ll give me.”

How did you score the featherweight title fight between Holly Holm and Germaine de Randamie? Sound off, PENN Nation!
