UFC Chooses Not to Re-Sign Featherweight Thiago Tavares.

Thiago Tavares No Longer a UFC Fighter

Veteran Featherweight Thiago Tavares is no longer a UFC fighter after the UFC chose not to issue him a new contract. As first reported by MMAFighting.com, the Brazilian had been fighting for the UFC since 2007.

Tavares came into the UFC with a 10-0 record and leaves a decade later with a record of 20-7-1. Tavares lost seven times in the octagon with five coming by knockout. His last win came in November 2015 against Clay Guida where he won via Guillotine Choke in the first round.

Tavares last fought in the UFC against Doo Ho Choi in July where he lost via knockout in the first round. His chin was starting to come into question after all four of his last losses came by way of knockout.

The Brazilian started his career at Lightweight before dropping down to Featherweight in 2014. Tavares had a record of 2-2 at Featherweight losing both times by knockout.

He has notably fought the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov, Doo Ho Choi, Clay Guida, Brian Ortega, and Manvel Gamburyan. Tavares has signed a multiple fight deal with Brazilian organization Aspera FC, where he is set to make his debut February 18 against Mauricio Machado at Aspera FC 49.
