Sergio Pettis off next weekend’s ‘UFC Fight Night: Portland’ fight card

Sergio Pettis UFC Mexico

With just over a week to go until the UFC hits Portland, Oregon, top ranked UFC flyweight Sergio Pettis has been forced to withdraw from the card.

Pettis, who currently sits at #15 on the UFC’s official flyweight rankings, was slated to face #9 ranked flyweight Louis Smolka on the main card of the event. Unfortunately however, he was forced to withdraw from the fight due to a “minor injury” according to his coach, Duke Roufus.

Roufus took to Instagram to post about the situation:

#throwbackthursday @sergiopettis 1 year ago today in preparation for his win at @ufc #ufc192 #ufchouston He is a great person, Martial Artist & Fighter. I have seen grow up at @Roufusport since he was 13 years old. Unfortunately #SergioPettis sustained a minor injury and will not be fighting @louissmolka50a7 at @ufc #ufc #ufcportland Respect to #LouisSmolka as always thank you to the amazing #teampettis fans, the #Roufusport legion, #teamwoodley #cmpunk #repcombatcorner #milwaukee people supporting him! Only a speed bump, heal up & ready for action!

While there has been no word yet as to what kind of injury it is that forced Pettis out of the fight, Roufus’ post mentions that it is a “minor injury” which he then calls “a speed bump”.

With just over a week to go until fight night, there has been no word yet on whether or not the UFC will scratch the fight, or look to find Smolka a replacement opponent on short notice.

Louis Smolka

Pettis would have entered the bout on a 2-fight wins streak that has seen him pick up back to back unanimous decision wins over Chris Cariaso and most recently Chris Kelades.

Louis Smlka on the other hand would have entered the bout on a 4-fight win streak that has seen him take the UFC’s flyweight division by storm. With 3 of his 4 wins on his current win streak being finishes, Smolka is making a name for himself in the flyweight division.
