When Rory MacDonald walked down the Bellator ramp like Scott Hall showing up at a WCW Nitro broadcast, it sent some pretty big shockwaves through the internet. His debut for the organization wasn’t any less exciting, he submitted Paul Daley in less than two minutes. MacDonald is confident his performance is going to result in a welterweight title shot against champion Douglas Lima, but he has his eyes set on an even bigger goal: Two-weight division Bellator champion. A path that he hopes leads to a fight with another UFC transplant, Gegard Mousasi.

In his recent Reddit MMA Ask Me Anything appearance, Rory MacDonald showed just how far he thinks down the line. Not only does MacDonald have to beat Lima for the Bellator welterweight title, but Gegard Mousasi will have to win his Bellator 185 debut against Alexander Shlemenko, then fight and beat Bellator middleweight champion Rafael Carvalho. It’s best not to get mixed up in the timeline and just enjoy the idea of Rory MacDonald actually wanting to fight Mousasi. That’s an incredible fight that could have headlined a UFC pay-per-view.
Regardless if it happens exactly the way MacDonald wants it, it’s clear he wants to get the welterweight title as fast as possible and then immediately challenge for the middleweight belt. Accomplishing that in such a short amount of time would solidify Rory MacDonald’s place as one of the best MMA fighters of all time. Keep in mind, he has wins over current UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, previous title challenger Demian Maia, and Hall of Famer B.J. Penn himself.
