Holly Holm, like many, was shocked to find out that the UFC had opted to not book a rematch between herself and Miesha Tate for UFC 200 after their close fight in the co-main event of UFC 196.
Holm’s camp accused Tate of declining a rematch with Holm in order to take an easier fight by agreeing to fight Amanda Nunes. Tate’s camp responded by revealing that a rematch with Holm was never on the table.
This has led many to wonder if the UFC is waiting to book Holm a fight in hopes of booking Holm vs. Rousey II later this year when Rousey is ready to return to the Octagon.
Holm spoke on The MMA Hour to discuss the situation:
“It’s very possible,” Holm said. “I don’t know what their real thinking is, but they’re obviously a successful business for a reason. They’re a successful promotion. They usually have their reasons behind everything.”
“I’ll be ready either way,” Holm said. “If I rematch with Ronda, I’m gonna train my butt off. If I rematch with Tate, I’m gonna train my butt off. If they give me one of the other top girls in the meantime, I’m gonna train my butt off.
“I feel like at this point, not having the rematch, which is what I really wanted, I kind of just changed my train of thought to just be open to whatever. I don’t want to be so focused on that that if something else comes my way that I don’t take advantage of the opportunity.”
Depending on how Tate vs. Nunes goes at UFC 200, the UFC could very well look to book Tate vs. Rousey III for later this year as well.
