Of all the stars that have been in the spotlight in the UFC, which one fighter would you say would be the iconic Mike Tyson of the promotion?
There have been quite a few massive stars that have made a name for themselves and helped bring eyes to the sport. Think back to some of the names from the early days all the way up to the present. Royce Gracie, Chuck Liddell, Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, and Conor McGregor are all likely names that many fans could bring up and make a solid case for.
However, when asking UFC President Dana White who he considers the Mike Tyson of the UFC, none of those names were listed.
Speaking with Mike Tyson on his new Bite the Mic podcast, White was asked who he considers the “Iron Mike” of the UFC.
“Our Tyson was Ronda (Rousey), man,” said White (transcribed by MMA Junkie). “Ronda had this aura of invincibility that we’ve never seen before. That’s why everyone was calling Ronda our Mike Tyson because she was the most dominant athlete on the planet. Conor (McGregor) is different. Conor is completely different than a Tyson – his verbal game, his picking the round.”
Do you agree with the UFC President? Did Ronda Rousey possess the same sort of intimidation factor and star power of Mike Tyson, more so than any other fighter that has been in the UFC? Let’s get your thoughts in the comment section and discuss this one.
