Insane stat proves Robbie Lawler is a true knockout artist

Robbie Lawler, UFC on FOx 26

Everybody knows Robbie Lawler likes to stand and bang. The blood-crazed former UFC welterweight champion is beloved for his action-packed stand-up battles, and his fight-ending knockout power.

A recent stat unearthed by MMAFighting’s Mike Chiappetta, however, shows just how addicted Lawler is to the stand-up side of mixed martial arts.

As Chiappetta explains, in Lawler’s 30 fights in major MMA promotions (the UFC, Strikeforce, EliteXC and PRIDE), he has never attempted a single submission. Not. one.

While Lawler has won by submission once before, it was all the way back in 2005, in the smaller promotion King of the Cage. And while he’s spent plenty of time on the mat throughout his recent career, these grounded stretches have merely been commas between violent stanzas on the feet.

Robbie Lawler’s next fight goes down this Saturday, when he will take on former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos in the main event of the stacked UFC on Fox 26, which goes down in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Lawler will enter this bout having recently defeated fellow fan favorite Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone with an action-packed decision. In his next most recent fight, he was knocked out by reigning UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, which marked the end of his own sit on the UFC welterweight throne.

Lawler’s opponent dos Anjos, meanwhile, has gone 2-0 since moving up to the welterweight division, out-classing former Strikeforce champ Tarec Saffiedine to a decision, and more recently, tapping Neil Magny in the first round.

Do you think Robbie Lawler adds a knockout to his highlight reel this weekend?
