Another STACKED episode of BJPENN.COM Radio has arrived, Penn Nation!
We kick things off with former UFC lightweight champion and current Bellator MMA star, Benson Henderson. Following the announcement that James Gallagher would not be competing at Bellator 196 in Budapest next weekend, Benson answered the call to save the card and now faces another MMA veteran in Roger Heurta. We’ll preview the fight in the usual “Smooth” fashion, discuss what he’d like to accomplish in 2018, and we’ll hear Ben’s interesting take on how to fix judging in MMA.
Our second guest is UFC featherweight Alex Caceres. “Bruce Leeroy” is slated to face Artem Lobov at UFC 223 in Brooklyn, New York on April 7th. We’ll get Alex’s thoughts on Artem as an opponent, what the fight means for his career in the UFC, how he manages to stay grounded in this era of trash talk, and why martial arts are his way of life as well as his profession.
Next up we are joined by former UFC welterweight contender, Rick “The Horror” Story. Story broke the news two weeks ago that he has parted ways with the UFC and is now expected to compete in the inaugural Professional Fighters League tournament series. We’ll hear the timeline of events that led Rick to leave the UFC, what he thinks about the revolutionary format being attempted by the PFL, and how that all intertwines with his future career plans.
Our fourth guest is the no. 4 ranked bantamweight in the UFC, Jimmie Rivera. “El’ Terror” will help us preview his upcoming fight with Marlon Moraes in Utica, New York on June 1st at UFC Fight Night 131. Jimmie will give his thoughts on the competition at 135, how he fits into the title picture, and why he plans to make Marlon pay the price on fight night.
Next we have the 6th ranked welterweight in the UFC, and a guy we’ve missed on both on this show and inside the cage, Jorge Masvidal. “Gamebred” will update us on when he plans to return to competition and what caused him to take a hiatus after UFC 217. We’ll get his reaction to several welterweights calling him out over the past week, who he would like to fight upon his return, the ongoing beef with Bisping, and Masvidal’s recent work as an actor.
Closing out this episode we are joined by RIZIN Bantamweight Grand Prix champion and former UFC title challenger, Kyoji Horiguchi. Kyoji’s manager Fumihiko Ishii will translate for us while we preview the upcoming showdown between Ian McCall and Horiguchi at RIZIN FF 9 on May 6th. We’ll also discuss the resurgence of MMA in Japan and what Kyoji plans to accomplish this year.
All that and much more!
