At UFC 196, Nate Diaz shocked the world as he stepped up to fight Conor McGregor at welterweight on just 11 days notice.
While it was reported prior to the fight that Diaz had been training for a triathlon, the Stockton fighter revealed post-fight that he had been on a yacht in Cabo partying it up.
With talks of a potential rematch between the two at UFC 200 gaining momentum, Nate Diaz’s boxing coach Richard Perez spoke on the Deep Waters Podcast to discuss how he feels a rematch would go.
“It would be better because we only had 11 days and we only trained for nine,”
“Usually, when someone gets two weeks’ notice, chances are they are going to lose. But I had a lot of confidence in Nathan and Nathan had a lot of confidence in the way we train, and in the way he trains — he does bicycle riding, running, swimming.”
“If I were McGregor’s trainer, I’d say, let’s go back to 145,” Perez continued. “You’re awesome there. Fight Frankie Edgar or some top guy like that.
“But I guess they want a rematch. That’s going to be different.”
How do you see a rematch between these two playing out if the UFC is able to finalize a deal for UFC 200?
