Current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier spoke with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour on Monday following his time doing color commentary for the UFC 197 broadcast over the weekend.

Jon Jones was able to outpoint Ovince Saint Preux to win the interim title and will face Cormier next to unify the belts. If Cormier gets clearance from an MRI that is scheduled for late Monday, Jones and Cormier will headline UFC 200.

The UFC 200 main event spot remains open after the UFC pulled Conor McGregor from the card after “The Notorious” refused to partake in UFC 200 media obligations last week in Las Vegas.

Cormier spoke about the situation McGregor has put himself in after stating that he needs to train for the rematch against the fighter that just served him his first UFC loss.

“I do sympathize with him man because he does have an uphill battle,” Cormier said. “Because, if he loses again to this guy again, I love Nate Diaz. I love Nate Diaz. He’s a great guy, he’s a friend of mine, but Nate has lost ten times. You know, we’re not talking about Rafael dos Anjos, we’re not talking about Khabib Nurmagomedov, we’re not talking about the champions.

“Conor can’t lose to Nate over and over again you know? And honestly, I don’t know if he can actually beat him. It’s just a bad style matchup for him. It’s a tough situation that these guys are in right now.”
