Mike Perry has managed to create two back-to-back staredowns with Santiago Ponzinibbio that everyone was talking about. The first one contained some unorthodox trash talk, Karate Kid references, and a behind-the-back Hadouken. The latest one featured … sniffing? Last night at the UFC Winnipeg ceremonial weigh-ins, Mike Perry had to stop and get a big whiff off his opponent. Later on the post-weigh-in show, he explained to everyone what he was trying to smell on Ponzinibbio.
“[I smelled] A little bit of estrogen [on Santiago Ponzinibbio]. I smelled some puppy chow. I was getting hungry. […] I was out of my mind at that moment. You know, you [Tyron Woodley] might know how that gets. Maybe you too, [Kenny Florian]. You know, you can lose your mind when you’re cutting that weight but it’s good to be fun. Have fun with it, be a little funny and make some jokes. You know, I’m just trying to have a good time with what I’m doing. This is a good life we live. A little bit of estrogen. I smelled some puppy chow. I was getting hungry.”
It’s a good fuckin life I live ! #Blessed

“I’m a mixed martial artist. i’m very well-rounded. I am a complete and total fighter. I will show that tomorrow and I am intelligent, that’s why I’m sitting sitting in this seat right now. They don’t give everybody this opportunity […] It is something inside of me that I can’t explain. They ask me to explain it and I have trouble with that sometimes. Today I’ve really been feeling it now that I’ve gotten to eat and make weight. There some type of power and some type of energy that comes from somewhere else and it’s so powerful sometimes that you just can’t help yourself. You want to implode and you have to keep it under control. Tomorrow is fight night, I’m going to let it all go then.” — Mike Perry speaking to UFC on FOX.
All jokes aside, Mike Perry knows that he’s under a spotlight tonight and that another victory here puts him in the welterweight rankings. His wild antics and all of his wins being finishes just fuels the ever-burning hype machine, which makes it hard to remember his decision loss to Alan Jouban. Even his potential opponents are rooting for him. With this game, you’re only as good as your last fight. If he starches Ponzinibbio, it’s all anyone will be talking about and they’ll talk him into a great spot and a shot at another top-10 opponent.
