For a moment in late 2017, it looked as though Darren Till and “Platinum” Mike Perry might become mortal enemies in the perilous UFC welterweight division. Since then, however, their rivalry has blossomed into a mutual respect that borders on a bromance.
Earlier this month, while visiting Los Angeles for the UFC’s 20th Anniversary Press Conference, the two welterweights got some face-time in. Apparently, they even got a bit of sparring in — that was after Darren Till realized Mike Perry hadn’t invited him to the spa.
Speaking on a recent episode of Submission Radio, Mike Perry divulged that he actually gave Darren Till a few tips with respect to his upcoming title fight with champ Tyron Woodley, which headlines UFC 228 on September 8.
“I did man [give him some tips] because, I mean, just the way that I see it, with fighting against a shorter fighter, Darren stands rather tall and I said I think he needs to get down and bend his knees,” Till said (transcript via MMANytt).
“He needs to get his eyes on the same level as T-Woodley’s, I mean he’s got a good turn-away from the takedown and the shot, but you know, [I said] ‘I’m not trying to give you advice because you’re the one fighting the champ, but the way that I think I see it, I think maybe you could do this some more; bend your knees some more and get lower sometimes,” Perry continued.
“I know you’re going to do what you do and fight confidently and I’m sure T-Woodley will do too. Who really knows? Who knows. I just hope those boys make that weight so they can fight for that damn thing.”
What do you think of this piece of advice that Mike Perry gave Darren Till? Do you think it will help the Brit against Tyron Woodley?
