After loss in Sacramento, “Platinum” Mike Perry requests rematch with Alan Jouban

Mike Perry

One of the most anticipated features of Saturday’s UFC on Fox 22 lineup was a welterweight showdown between scrappy fan favorites Mike Perry and Alan Jouban. Given the pair’s proven propensity for violence, the possibility of a knockout in this fight seemed high.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get a knockout. In fact, we didn’t even get an especially competitive fight. Instead, Jouban soundly out-struck Perry for three rounds, battering him with a diversified Muay Thai attack and staying out of the way of his crippling power punches. The end result, then, was a clear-cut decision win for Jouban.

In the wake of this fight, Perry seems to be having a hard time coming to grips with his loss. On Sunday morning, the rising prospect took to Twitter to ask Alan Jouban and the UFC for a rematch.

“I want a rematch,” Perry said in his Sunday morning Tweet. “I made some mistakes but I’m better than that. Run it back, homie. Double or nothing!”

Having defeated Perry, Jouban is now on a three-fight win-streak, as he defeated Brandon O’Reilly and Belal Muhammed in his two previous fights. Now 15-4 overall, it’s hard to say if he’ll be willing to give Perry a rematch–especially given all the pre-fight trash they talked about each other.

This loss to Jouban is Perry’s first as a pro. It was also his first time fighting to the judges’ scorecards. This could be why he is so keen to run it back. Whether he gets his rematch with Jouban or not, this fight is likely to be a useful learning experience for him. He’s now 9-1 in sum.
