Former UFC Bantamweight title challenger, Michael “Mayday” McDonald made his Bellator MMA debut last Friday in the Bellator 191 main event against Peter Ligier. A fight that McDonald succeeded in by winning a unanimous decision across three rounds. But despite the win for McDonald, he will be facing yet another setback due to injuries. Sometime in the second round, McDonald broke his hand and fought through it. After seeing the X-Ray photo…surely the break only got worse as the fight continued after the initial break.
I am proud of my performance & so should my opponent Peter. He truly rose to the occasion & put on a fantastic performance. I assume you all want to see the broken hand X rays lol. Here you go! Cant believe I fought another round busted like this lol. Praise God for adrenaline! pic.twitter.com/0RmlrqyU9J

McDonald has alternated wins and losses in his last six bouts but at age 26, he still has plenty of years of success ahead of him if he can stay healthy. Even though McDonald only has one win with his new organization, it’s hard not to imagine him already being close to a title shot. The current Bellator Bantamweight champion is the NCAA Division 1 wrestler, Darrion Caldwell who defeated the two-time champion, Eduardo Dantas at Bellator 184 in October to become champion.
With the Bellator 135 lb division being one of their shallower ones, McDonald could have had a title shot planned for his next fight but his broken hand may put that on hold. Time will tell.
