UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping has generated some controversy over the last few weeks, as he’s been flirting with the idea of a superfight with Georges St-Pierre, and simultaneously showing disinterest in a fight with top middleweight contender Yoel Romero.

According to the British champion, however, he’d simply be foolish not to accept a fight with St-Pierre if it was offered to him.

“If they offer me the No. 1 contender, I’ll take the No. 1 contender,” Bisping said on a recent episode of the UFC Unfiltered podcast. “If they offer me GSP –listen, I will be a fool not to take it – of course I will take GSP. If they were to offer that fight, but there’s been no word about it.”

Bisping then went on to explain that, in his opinion, St-Pierre would be extremely unwise to take this fight.

“After three years [away from the cage], I think it’s a tough fight for GSP if I’m honest,” he said. “Fighters know the hardest part of fighting – of course it’s the physical – but the hardest part is the mental aspect. There’s self-doubt, inner demons.”

“GSP kind of had a tough fight last time out against Johny Hendricks,” the middleweight champ continued. “And spending three years away, and coming back stepping up a weight class and fighting me, I think that’s a bad idea for Georges St-Pierre. If he wants to do it then God bless.”

St-Pierre has not stepped into the cage since 2013, when he scored a razor thin decision win over Johny Hendricks, defending his welterweight belt for a ninth time. Bisping, meanwhile, was last seen in action when he defended his title with a similarly close decision over the retiring Dan Henderson.
