The confusion regarding who will headline the UFC’s historic New York card, UFC 205, continued today.
After it was initially reported that Conor McGregor and Eddie Alvarez would fight for the lightweight title, UFC President Dana White revealed that the fight the UFC was looking to book was Alvarez vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov.
This week, former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub revealed on his ‘The Fighter And The Kid’ podcast with Bryan Callen that the reason Alvarez would be fighting Nurmagomedov was because Alvarez demanded too much money from the UFC for a fight with McGregor, which prompted the promotion to give Alvarez a fight with Nurmagomedov as a sort of punishment.
Schaub explained:
“So from what I hear, Eddie Alvarez was complaining to the UFC brass that he wanted more money to fight Conor McGregor. He wanted pay-per-view points, he wanted a certain amount of money. And the UFC, you know Joe Silva’s going out, he goes, ‘You wanna do what? Oh one of the biggest fight card of all time at Madison Square Garden. First time the UFC’s ever been to New York and we’re allowing you to fight Conor McGregor as the main event but you want more money? Nah, I’ll tell you what we’re gonna do. We’re going to pull Conor off, give him a bigger fight. Then, here’s Khabib Nurmagomedov.”
Alvarez was quick to jump on Twitter himself to refute Schaub’s claims, saying that most certainly was not the case with the fight.
Now however, Nurmagomedov has taken to Twitter with leaked pictures of two UFC contracts he has signed. The first signed contract is for a fight with Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205, the second is a signed contract to fight Alvarez at UFC 206 on December 10th in Toronto, Canada.
According to the caption, Nurmagomedov is waiting on Alvarez to choose when he wants to fight the undefeated Dagestani fighter.
