Kajan Johnson announces UFC release in emotional Instagram post

Kajan Johnson

Lightweight fighter Kajan Johnson (23-14-1 MMA) is no longer a member of the UFC roster.

“Ragin” took to Instagram earlier today where he announced his release from the promotion, while bidding an emotional farewell to his supporters.

“It is with sadness in my heart that I say farewell to the UFC. I spent the majority of my life trying to get in and once I was in I did it my way. I accomplished my dreams and did what I could to effect change within a system that greatly needs it. I am grateful for the blessings and the lessons that I was given and shown in these last 4 years and am truly a better man and fighter because of them. To all those that believed supported me, thank you, I love you. To all those that hated on me and motivated me, thank you, I love you. To whatever awaits me next, I am ready, let’s go! 🙏🏾💙👊🏾” – Kajan Johnson

The 34-year-old Canadian went 4-3 under the UFC banner during his seven-fight octagon career.

After losing his octagon debut to Tae Hyun Bang at UFC 174 in June of 2014, Kajan Johnson rebounded to win his next four fights in a row.

During that stretch “Ragin” scored victories over Zhang Lipeng, Naoyuki Kotani, Adriano Martins and Stevie Ray.

Johnson had his four-fight win streak halted this past July in Calgary when he suffered a submission loss (armbar) to Islam Makhachev at UFC on FOX 30.

Kajan Johnson made a quick turnaround following the setback, taking on Rustam Khabilov just two weeks ago at the UFC’s debut event in Moscow.

Unfortunately for Johnson, he suffered a controversial split-decision loss to the hometown favorite (Khabilov) and as many expected his release from the promotion soon followed.

Kajan Johnson was not exactly beloved by UFC President Dana White and promotional officials, this after he became known as an outspoken MMA Union Advocate.

Johnson served as the interim vice president of Project Spearhead, an organization which seeks to organize MMA fighters for the purpose of a fighters union.

Now a free agent, it will be interesting to see where Kajan Johnson lands next.
