On July 9th, Frankie Edgar will get the chance to avenge his 2013 loss to Jose Aldo for the featherweight championship when the pair face off in an interim featherweight title fight. In addition to winning the interim featherweight strap, the winner of the fight will secure a featherweight title fight with Conor McGregor for the undisputed featherweight championship.

He spoke to MMAJunkie to analyze Edgar’s game ahead of their rematch, as well as his own prior to his loss to Conor McGregor, as well as since his loss to McGregor:

“Before (the loss), I don’t know if I was inadvertently in a comfort zone, but I was dragging along a little,” Aldo said during a media scrum on the lead-up to his UFC 200 return. “Just sort of maintaining and coasting. Not anymore. Now I’m getting back to my WEC days, when we went all out and risked it to win the fights. I’m focused on that. Obviously I’m not going in there like a mad man, but it’s a new Aldo again.”

“He’s more adjusted to the division, but I don’t see an evolution in his game,” Aldo said. “Because I came off a loss, I tried to change things up a bit. I think a fire has been lit again. The will to win. I don’t see that much of a change. We’re both skilled. But you can be sure I’m going to win, and win well.”
