Jorge Masvidal calls out Neil Magny, wants to “break his face”

Jorge Masvidal

Last month, in the co-main event of the UFC’s latest trip to Denver, Colorado, Jorge Masvidal scored a significant upset by knocking Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone out with a series of second-round punches. In doing so, he ended the fan favorite’s four-fight win-streak, and established himself as a legitimate welterweight contender.

Having emerged as a bona fide contender in the stacked welterweight division, Masvidal quickly began to look ahead to his next fight. For a time, he made efforts to pick a fight with streaking contender Demian Maia.

“If Maia’s the dude that will get me closer to the title, bring that dude on,” Masvidal told BJPENN.COM’s Chris Taylor. I’ll break his sh*t. He’s not going to take me down. People were shocked with my striking with Cowboy, people will be shocked with my wrestling [against Maia]. He has wrestling and jiu jitsu, but he won’t outwrestle me. So if Demian Maia wants to get that ass whooped, I’m here man

When Maia announced his intention to wait for a shot at the winner of Tyron Woodley and Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson’s looming welterweight title rematch, however, it became clear that Masvidal would have to continue searching for his next opponent.

That search has led Masvidal to Neil Magny, who currently holds the number 5 spot in the UFC welterweight rankings. Over the last few days, Masvidal has begun cajoling Magny on Twitter, calling him a “faker” and promising to “break his face.”

See Masvidal’s Tweets to Magny below.

With his defeat of Cerrone, Masvidal moved onto a three-fight streak, as he defeated Ross Pearson and Jake Ellenberger in his next most recent bouts. Magny, meanwhile, is riding high off a win over former welterweight champ Johny Hendricks. This win separated him from a first-round TKO loss to new free agent Lorenz Larkin.
