Joanna Jedrzejczyk claims that Ronda Rousey “had a terrible weight cut” before fighting Holly Holm.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk suffered the first setback of her UFC career this past November at UFC 217.
The Polish superstar was stopped by Rose Namajunas in the very first-round, surrendering her UFC strawweight title in the process.
Following the shocking loss Joanna admitted that she had suffered a brutal weight cut prior to losing her title at UFC 217.
After suffering her first career loss under the UFC banner, Jedrzejczyk hopes to have a conversation with former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey so that she can help educate other fighters on the dangers of weight cutting in the future.
“I always wanted to talk to Ronda about how she felt the night before that night that she lost to Holly Holm. I was afraid to ask her before because I was winning,” Jedrzejczyk told Ariel Helwani (via MMAFighting).
“Actually, we have one agent (in common) and I spoke to him and told him that my legs went numb and that I felt a bit groggy or something like this. The funny thing is Ronda felt the same way; she had a terrible weight cut before Holly Holm.”
“I would like to sit with her and give an interview for people and to protect other fighters; younger fighters. Just to protect them. There is no price on our lives, so we must be serious with this.”
Joanna continued:
“The funny thing is, people don’t believe that your brain can be frozen, but the weight cut can change the game. It can and that’s the worse thing. It can (happen) and this is what happened to me and Ronda. We paid the price for the weight cuts and that’s the thing. They didn’t go through the weight cut, so they don’t understand,” the former champion stated. “They don’t understand what we had to go through, but one day I will explain to all of them.”
Joanna will rematch Rose on April 7 in the co-main event of UFC 223.
