Vanessa Porto suffered a nasty eye injury during her flyweight title fight with Pearl Gonzalez at last night’s Invicta FC 34 event in Kansas City.
The injury occurred in round four, this after Pearl Gonzalez struck Vanessa Porto with an accidental eye poke.
Despite being ruled unable to continue by the doctors and officials in attendance, Porto still walked away with a technical decision win on the judges scorecards.
Of course it was not the desired outcome for Porto to inevitably capture the promotions vacant flyweight title. But nonetheless, Vanessa appeared to be well on her way to earning a unanimous decision win.
Shortly following last night’s Invicta FC 34 main event, Porto shared the following photo on her official Instagram detailing the horrific eye injury.
Unfortunately for fight fans, the Invicta FC 34 headliner was not the only MMA main event to end on a sour note yesterday evening.
Last night’s Bellator 215 headliner lasted only 15-seconds, this after Matt Mitrione struck Sergei Kharitonov with an accidental kick to the groin, which left the “Russian Mercenary” unable to continue.
Thankfully Vanessa Porto is expected to make a full recovery from the injury she suffered due to the accidental eye poke last night.
Porto’s Invicta FC 34 opponent, Pearl Gonzalez, issued the following show of respect to the newly crowned champion on Twitter late yesterday evening.
