UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm will make her first title defense at this weekend’s UFC 196 event in Las Vegas when she squares off with former Strikeforce title holder Miesha Tate in the evening’s co-main event slot.
Many people thought that the ‘Holm vs. Tate’ bout would be promoted to ‘main event’ status after Rafael dos Anjos was forced to pull out of his scheduled title fight with Conor McGregor.
However, UFC officials decided that the newly announced welterweight bout between “Mystic Mac” and short-notice replacement Nate Diaz should still take precedence.
Holm talked to MMAJunkie about the main event ‘snub’, here is what she had to say:
“I don’t really – a lot of people are like, ‘You should be the main event.’ I’m like, ‘co-main is fine,’” Holm stated. “I have my fight. That’s all I care about. It’s not my job to promote and I’m so glad because that’s really not a concern or care of mine.”
She continued:
“I just want to win,” Holm said. “I don’t care if it’s the first fight, the last fight (or) the second to last fight. It’s honestly – I have zero concern about that.”
