Former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre frequently finds himself at odds with the UFC brass. When St-Pierre initially stepped away from the sport in 2013 following a split decision win over Johny Hendricks, ‘Rush’ began to speak out about PEDs in MMA, calling for a clean sport if there was any chance of him returning.

This year, talks of GSP making a return to the Octagon picked up quite a bit of steam as all signs pointed to St-Pierre returning to the Octagon on December 10th to fight Michael Bisping for the middleweight championship in Toronto, Canada.

Unfortunately, negotiations between St-Pierre and the UFC failed, resulting in St-Pierre having to deliver Michael Bisping a message via social media, in which he stated that while he would love to fight ‘The Count’, the fight couldn’t happen at the present time.

This week, St-Pierre was part of a team of fighters who announced the formation of the MMA Athletes Association, which led many to speculate about whether or not St-Pierre would be continuing to negotiate his return with the UFC, or if he would be able to sign with another promotion.

For the second time now, St-Pierre claimed that he is a free agent according to his lawyer.

“My lawyer (James Quinn) — he’s the best in this kind of situation — he told me I’m a free agent,” St-Pierre said. “So I am a free agent from my side of the situation. We have very strong evidence that I’m a free agent. Very confident. That’s all I can say.”

“I have to be very careful of how I’m going to answer this question, because it can be used in court,” St-Pierre said. “My lawyer James Quinn told me I’m a free agent. But you know how it is. There’s two sides of the situation and sometimes it could be in court. That’s all I can say.”

The UFC of course once again shot down St-Pierre’s claims, saying that ‘Rush’ is not a free agent, and they have no plans of releasing him from his contract.
