If Firas Zahabi gets his way, former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre will follow up in the footsteps of Conor McGregor and step into the boxing ring with undefeated legend Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Zahabi shared his hopes for a St-Pierre vs. Mayweather boxing match on a recent episode of the JRE MMA Show.

“I want Georges to fight Mayweather,” Zahabi said (transcribed by Simon Samano for MMAjunkie). “I keep bothering Georges, ‘You fight Mayweather. You fight him.’ He’s like, ‘It’s crazy.’ I know it’s crazy.”

St-Pierre, of course, is significantly bigger than Mayweather, so the pair would have to meet somewhere in the middle.

“They’ll fight at a catchweight,” Zahabi explained, clarifying on the logistics of his dream fight. “Do you think Mayweather is worried that he’s going to be concussed? He’s fought all the top punchers in the world. He’s just going to have to worry about Georges’ volume and reach, but he can handle himself, and Georges can handle himself. But the whole world is going to tune into that one.”

While Zahabi wants this fight to happen, he doesn’t believe St-Pierre has any interest in calling out a smaller fighter. So, if this is ever going to go down, Mayweather will have to call St-Pierre out.

“I’m like, ‘Georges do it,’ But Georges doesn’t want to fight a smaller guy, doesn’t want to call out a smaller guy,” Zahabi explained. “So it’s going to have to come from Mayweather. It’s going to have to come from him.”

Georges St-Pierre last fought in November, when he defeated Michael Bisping to capture the middleweight title and become one of the few fighters in UFC history to wear belts in two divisions. He subsequently vacated the middleweight belt, citing health issues that would keep him out of action for some time.

Floyd Mayweather, meanwhile, has not fought since August, when he defeated Conor McGregor by 10th-round TKO, and improved to a sparkling 50-0 overall.
