VIDEO | Watch Uriah Hall Smash Gegard Mousasi in Their First Fight

Uriah Hall Gegard Mousasi

Originally, the UFC’s Saturday night trip to Belfast, Norther Ireland was supposed to be headlined by a welterweight bout between South Korea’s Dong Hyun Kim and honorary Irishman Gunnar Nelson. When Nelson was forced out of this bout with an injury, however, the Belfast card received a new main event: a middleweight rematch between Gegard Mousasi and Uriah Hall.

Mousasi and Hall first met back in September of 2015, at UFC Fight Night 75 in Saitama, Japan. In advance of this fight, Mousasi was identified as a massive favorite, pegged as high as -725 by some oddsmakers. In the end, however, he would find himself on the wrong end of a highlight reel knockout, and one of the more significant upsets of the year.

The upset occurred at the 25-second mark of round two, when Hall levelled his foe with a perfectly-timed spinning kick, and polished him off with a knee and a storm of ground and pound. Hall’s second-round win followed a tough first round, which saw him soundly out-grappled by Mousasi.

You can watch Hall’s career-best win at the top of this post.

Given the way Mousasi was dominating Hall until the he was knocked out, many fans were quick scream fluke in the wake of this fight. Mousasi has been of a similar opinion in the year since he lost to Hall, assuring he’d beat his former foil if they fought again.

When the UFC takes over Belfast this Saturday, Mousasi will have his chance to prove it. He’ll enter this fight with three-straight wins behind him: a decision over Thales Leites, and a pair of TKOs over Thiago Santos and Vitor Belfort.

Hall, meanwhile, will enter the bout on a two-fight losing streak, having not won a fight since he defeated Mousasi in late 2015. In his most recent bout, he was mauled by Derek Brunson. In his most recent fight before that, he was outpointed by streaking Australian contender Robert Whittaker.

Do you think Mousasi will get his revenge this Saturday, or will history repeat itself? Sound off, PENN Nation!
