At UFC 200 earlier this month, former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar has his 5-fight win streak snapped at the hands of former featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo.
Aldo stuffed Edgar’s takedowns, and used his reach to pick Edgar apart while avoiding the strikes of Edgar. Interestingly enough, Aldo revealed this week that he had spies in Edgar’s locker room, which is why he knew not to throw kicks during the fight.
Now, Edgar finds himself in an odd position, at #2 on the featherweight rankings, there aren’t many top ranked featherweights Edgar hasn’t already fought. He spoke to The Citizen to discuss when he would like to return:
“Ideally, Madison Square Garden (UFC 205) would be great, “But we’ll see what the UFC has in store.”
“I’m not even worried about titles right now. I’m just worried about getting back in that win column. First things first, I’d like to get back to winning ways.”
“I’d like to get at least another win up here at 145 (pounds) and see where that takes me.”
It is worth noting that #3 ranked featherweight Max Holloway, who is coming off a unanimous decision win over Ricardo Lamas at UFC 199, doesn’t currently have a fight booked. In addition, #4 featherweight Ricardo Lamas also doesn’t have a fight booked.
