After winning the UFC featherweight championship by knocking out Jose Aldo in the main event of UFC 194, Conor McGregor opted to go up to lightweight to fight Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight title at UFC 196.

Ultimately, dos Anjos was forced to withdraw from the fight with a broken foot, and was replaced by Nate Diaz on just two weeks notice. On fight night, Diaz submitted McGregor in the second round of their welterweight matchup.

Now, with Jose Aldo & Frankie Edgar set to fight for the interim featherweight championship at UFC 200, and McGregor set to rematch Diaz at UFC 202, Frankie Edgar believes that McGregor should be made to defend his belt.

He spoke to International Business:

“I think [McGregor] should have to defend it. He got to go do what he wanted to do and go up a weight class, or do whatever. It didn’t work out for him, and he should have to come back and defend it.

“But he calls the shots a little bit more than other guys, and I can’t hate him for wanting to get revenge and all that stuff. But of course it’s at my expense, so I’m looking at it a different way.”
