The two men involved in Saturday night’s main event took part in the traditional open media workouts on Thursday. Both Fabricio Werdum (22-7-1) and Marcin Tybura (16-2) will fight in what could place on these fighters in line for a title shot with an impressive performance in Sydney.
Werdum’s last outing was a bizarre, last-minute bout against Walt Harris. Werdum’s original opponent, Derrick Lewis, withdrew the morning of the fight, leaving Werdum without an opponent until Harris was pulled up from the prelims to fight the former UFC heavyweight champion. It took Werdum just one minute and five seconds to dispatch Harris and get himself back in to the win column.
Sharing the Octagon with Werdum will be Polish heavyweight Marcin Tybura, who is coming in to Saturday’s bout on a three-fight win streak. His most recent victory came from a comfortable decision win over former champ Andrei Arlovski in June.
Werdum has already been making headlines in Sydney during fight week as he had an altercation with UFC welterweight Colby Covington that ended with a summons being served to Werdum and Covington claiming that charges will be filed.
