EXCLUSIVE | Josh Emmett criticizes UFC pay structure after recent ‘financial struggles’

Josh Emmett is set to return to the Octagon on March 30, when he takes on Michael Johnson. When he does finally return, it will have been over a year since his last fight because of all the injuries he sustained in his last outing.

That left Emmett with only one fight in 2018 and only one chance to get paid. During this time off, Emmett got thinking about the pay structure in the UFC, and he thinks it could use some work.

“That’s been tough. That’s the one thing where I wish, I don’t think any of us get paid enough,” Emmett said recently on BJPENN Radio. “Except for the people at the very very top, and that’s been the main issue, main struggle. I only got paid once in 2018, and of course, I didn’t get the win, so I only got half my check. Then being sidelined, not being able to do anything…

“It puts… not doubts… I’m gonna continue to do this,” he continued. “I put everything into this fight game and then it’s just like man, am I ever gonna be able to fight again? Then you have all these financial struggles and stuff like that, so it’s been tough. But luckily, my wife, she works, and she’s been kind of handling everything. But we’re still just barely getting by and things like that.”

The good news is that Emmett is back and ready to make some money again. He hopes he gets his hand raised come March 30 so he can get his win bonus too.

Do you agree with Josh Emmett about the UFC’s pay structure?
