BJPENN.com spoke with Nate Diaz’s boxing coach Richard Perez earlier this week about a number of topics regarding the “Stockton Sluggers” rematch with Conor McGregor at UFC 200.
One of those topics regarded the comments Perez had made in the lead up to UFC 196, in which he insinuated that Conor McGregor had been using steroids. We asked Perez if he now, following the announcement that every UFC 196 competitor passes their respective drug tests, had any regrets about the verbal shots he made towards McGregor:
“Oh my gosh. You know anybody can drink a substance and clear it out, you know and pass (the test). But in your opinion when you see someone coming up from 145 to 170 what do you think? You think he’s going to be all muscle or have some fat on him? Especially in that fast of time?”
Our interviewer agreed with the fact that McGregor had certainly put on a lot of muscle prior to UFC 196 and Perez came back with this simple response to put a rest to the subject:
“I mean yeah right. I mean that is just my opinion and everyone has their own opinion. I’m not confirming that he was (on steroids) but it looked obvious to me. I mean I couldn’t see no fat on him and that is pretty strange. But I mean, who am I to know.”
Ultimately Conor McGregor and all of the other UFC 196 competitors were cleared of any wrong doing when the NSAC announced the results of the fighter drug tests earlier this week.
Do you think there is any chance Conor McGregor was using any banned substances in the lead up to his UFC 196 fight against Nate Diaz. How do you see the Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz rematch playing out? Sound off PENN Nation!
