It was recently announced that a fight between featherweights Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier (12-2 MMA, 4-1 UFC) and Jonathan Brookins (13-5 MMA, 2-2 UFC) will take place at the “TUF 16 Finale”, set for December 15th at The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Dustin Poirier returns to the octagon on the heels of his “fight of the year” candidate match against Chan Sung Jung that took place back in May at the UFC on FUEL TV 3 event. Following his submission defeat to “The Korean Zombie”, Poirier has since joined up with American Top Team in hopes to once again climb the ranks of the featherweight division.
To get back to his winning ways, Poirier will have to defeat “TUF 12” winner, Jonathan Brookins. Since winning “TUF 12” Brookins has gone just 1-2 inside the octagon. Jonathan last saw action against Charles Oliveira at the TUF 15 finale. Brookins was submitted by Oliveira in the second round that evening.
The TUF 16 Finale is headlined by a heavyweight bout between TUF coaches Roy Nelson and Shane Carwin.
