This Saturday, the UFC will return to Toronto, Ontario, Canada for the first time since September of 2013. It will do so with UFC 206, a card that was regrettably rocked by a last minute, main event cancellation, but still stands out as a good one all the same.
The new main event of this Toronto card will see former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis take on the streaking Max Holloway in an interim featherweight title fight. The winner of this fight will unify the title with new undisputed featherweight champ Jose Aldo sometime in 2017.
The co-main event of UFC 206, meanwhile, will see fan favorite gunslinger Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone attempt to extend his welterweight win-streak to 4 with a win over gritty veteran Matt Brown. Other highlights of the card, finally, include a light heavyweight bout between violent prospects Nikita Krylov and Misha Cirkunov, a last-minute middleweight bout between Tim Kennedy and Kelvin Gastelum, and a welterweight scrap between the returning Jordan Mein and the debuting Emil “Valhalla” Meek.
Perhaps the most compelling fight on the entire lineup, however, will occur at featherweight, where South Korean prospect Doo Ho Choi – nicknamed “The Korean Superboy” – will face the biggest test of his career in veteran striker Cub Swanson.
Despite an appearance that is absolutely to the contrary, Choi is undeniably one of the most fearsome punchers in the featherweight division. Since joining the UFC in late 2014, he has scored three consecutive first-round knockouts over increasingly dangerous competition. First, he took out Juan Manuel Puig. Then, he thumped Sam Sicilia. Finally and most recently, he flattened Thiago Tavares. And now, he’ll attempt to do the same to Swanson, who has been stopped on strikes just once over the course of his 30-fight career.
In the buildup to this fight, the UFC has shared a brief, but awesome highlight of the rising South Korean prospect. Watch this highlight at the top of this article. If it doesn’t get you hyped for his next fight, check your pulse!
