Dana White gives unfortunate update on Donald Cerrone vs. Robbie Lawler rebooking

Dana White

This week, unfortunate news surfaced that UFC veteran Donald Cerrone had been forced out of his scheduled UFC 213 scrap against former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler. The news was a big blow to the MMA community, who had been anxiously awaiting the fight since UFC 205, where the fight was initially scheduled to take place. Unfortunately, when the fight was booked for UFC 205 at the end of 2016, it was Lawler who backed out of the fight, revealing that he would like to take more time off after being knocked out by Tyron Woodley at UFC 201, where Lawler lost the welterweight title.

Cerrone then took to social media to reveal that he must undergo 7 days of IV antibiotics for a “super bad” blood infection, but that he was working on getting the fight with Lawler rebooked:

Let everyone know this is not an injury. But a super bad infection in my blood. 7 days of IV and I'll be back at it. Working on getting the fight rescheduled

While the hope was that the fight be rebooked for UFC 214 in Anaheim, California, UFC President Dana White recently revealed the extent of Cerrone’s injuries to MMAJunkie, revealing that a rebooked fight in Anaheim on the UFC’s first pay-per view following UFC 213, isn’t an option.

“Here’s the deal. ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone is a stud. He’s too tough for his own good,” White said. “He absolutely wanted to fight. The kid’s got a pulled groin; he’s got a bruise from his knee to the inside of his groin. And his other knee is blowing up; he’s got staph infection.

“Could he come out and fight? Probably. Should he come out and fight Robbie Lawler with a pulled groin? No, he shouldn’t. We’re going to get him healthy and remake the fight.”

White concluded by saying:

“No, it won’t be on Anaheim,”
