Yancy Medeiro is fresh off his ‘Fight of the Year’ contender with Alex Oliveira that was so good the UFC had to give a ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus too even though they also gave it to Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje’s fight at UFC 218. That fight had everything: a back-and-forth war, action in every second, great shows of muual respect, and a late round finish. That win earned him a spot inside the welterweight rankings and a hype that the Waianae native hasn’t seen yet in his career. His high-profile win on the same card as his training partner and friend Max Holloway put eyes on him and now he’ll get to showcase his improvements on Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.
The Cowboy on the other hand, had been on a tear through welterweight until he starting hitting some road blocks, most notably former champion Robbie Lawler and stone-fisted newcomer Darren Till. This prompted him to talk about a trip back to lightweight and taking less fights in a year, but it looks like that isn’t happening just yet. We’ll be here to announce if and when this becomes official, but this sounds like a great fight for both guys that will certainly be a fan-favorite.
