Dillon Danis calls out Ben Askren following successful Bellator MMA debut, “Funky” responds accordingly
Dillon Danis picked up his first career mixed martial arts victory at last night’s Bellator 198 event in Chicago.
Danis, who is well known as Conor McGregor’s jiu jitsu coach, submitted his opponent Kyle Walker with a toe hold just over a minute in to the fights opening round.
Following his impressive first-round victory over Walker, which prompted Conor McGregor to break his social media silence, the always-brash Danis aimed high when calling out his next opponent.
“All the bums on the rest of the card are going to call me out now,” Danis stated backstage following his victory. “I came here to die. That motherf—ker had to kill me. I can give you a whole seminar on how to defeat MMA with jiu-jitsu. I’m the one who made this card. Second biggest card in the company (history). I was thinking, maybe, Ben Askren (next). We’ll see.”
The undefeated and recently retired former Bellator and ONE welterweight champion, Ben Askren (18-0 MMA, 1 no-contest), was quick to laugh off Danis’ call out.
He realizes this isn’t reality so he feels safe doing so. Maybe he should fight someone with a winning record first https://t.co/X2dGlYTVyI

“He realizes this isn’t reality so he feels safe doing so. Maybe he should fight someone with a winning record first.” – Ben Askren
“Funky” makes a good point, as Dillon’s Bellator 198 opponent Kyle Walker entered last night’s contest with a 2-4 professional record which included three straight setbacks.
Ben Askren has hinted in recent weeks that two potential opponents could bring him out of retirement… The UFC’s Georges St-Pierre or Bellator MMA’s Rory MacDonald.
