Preparing for his biggest fight to date, The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 winner, Antonio Carlos Junior may now have to prepare for even longer.
Riding an impressive five-fight winning streak that consists of four rear-naked-choke victories (three consecutive), Carlos Junior is poised for a step up in competition and he was set to get it against Derek Brunson at UFC 227 on August 4th in Los Angeles, California.
Unfortunately for both men, Combate has now reported that Brunson will have to pull out of the bout due to an eye injury.
Carlos Junior has proven to be one of the most dangerous fighters at 185 pounds with his fantastic BJJ. Which made the high level wrestler and aggressive striker in Brunson a very interesting style matchup.
Brunson was going into this fight after a losing effort to Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza in January. The loss snapped a two-fight winning streak.
With the omission of Brunson vs Carlos Junior, UFC 227 currently looks like this:
Bantamweight – 135lbs: (C)TJ Dillashaw vs. Cody Garbrandt
Flyweight – 125lbs: (C)Demetrious Johnson vs. Henry Cejudo
Light Heavyweight – 205lbs: Alexander Gustafsson vs. Volkan Oezdemir
Featherweight – 145lbs: Cub Swanson vs. Renato Moicano
Bantamweight: Bethe Correia vs. Irene Aldana
Bantamweight: Wuliji Buren vs. Bharat Khandare
Strawweight – 115lbs: Danielle Taylor vs. Zhang Weili
Bantamweight: Ricardo Ramos vs. Kyung Ho Kang
Bantamweight: Benito Lopez vs. Ricky Simon
Strawweight: Polyana Viana vs. JJ Aldrich
Bantamweight: Pedro Munhoz vs. Brett Johns
