If you weren’t aware of Darren Till’s connection to Brazil, the rising star from Liverpool spent a few years living there and started his professional MMA career in the country and even speaks the native Portuguese language. With the years of living, training, and competing in Brazil, Till still has a strong connection with friends and fans in the country even after moving back to the UK.

With fellow UFC welterweight Colby Covington’s controversial promotional speech following his win over Demian Maia in Brazil, Till says he has been messaged by his Brazilian friends and fans to teach the American Top Team fighter a lesson.

“I’ve had about a thousand messages from Brazilians, angry as well, saying they want me to kill Colby,” Till said on this week’s edition of The MMA Hour (transcribed by Peter Carroll for MMA Fighting).

“(They say), ‘He’s disrespected our country and he’s disrespecting you’. You know, he really did. Why did he do that? That was ridiculous.”

While Covington stated that he is just having fun with promoting himself in the game, there have been discussions about some type of punishment for the wild speech. However, Till doesn’t think Covington should get in any real trouble for his actions. However, Till did state that he thinks “Chaos” is trying a little too hard in being a villain.

“I’m not offended, I just think it’s stupid. I think Colby is trying to be this bad guy trash talker, but it’s coming off a bit (disingenuous). It’s like he’s forcing it. It’s fake,” he said.

“He’s trying too hard. Just be genuine and people will like you. Not a lot of people are liking him because he’s coming off as fake. Just be real and everyone will like you. Be a genuine person, you know?”
