VIDEO | Brock Lesnar back training on the wrestling mats

Brock Lesnar

The last time we saw Brock Lesnar near a cage it was following Daniel Cormier’s historic heavyweight title victory at UFC 226 this past July. Since then, we haven’t heard much of anything regarding the former UFC champion.

However this week, the University of Minnesota posted on their Twitter account some training footage that shows Lesnar is back on the mats.

Lesnar (5-3, 1 NC) hasn’t competed since his no contest against Mark Hunt at UFC 200 in July 2016. Originally marked a unanimous decision win for the WWE star, Lesnar failed his post-fight drug test administered by USADA and hasn’t competed since. The 41-year-old still hasn’t paid his $250,000 fine by USADA and according to MMAWeekly’s interview with Bob Bennet, Lesnar must settle this otherwise he’ll be under suspension.

“(Lesnar) is still suspended based on his fine,” NSAC executive director Bob Bennett told MMA Weekly back in July. “He is required to pay the fine or set up a payment plan with the Attorney General’s Office (to get cleared from the suspension).”

Lesnar won the heavyweight title in Nov. 2008 after finishing Randy Couture in the second round at UFC 91. He would defend that title twice before losing to Cain Velasquez at UFC 121. His next fight would be another setback against Alistair Overeem at UFC 141, where he was finished in the first round. Lesnar would step away from MMA due to health issues and go back to competing in professional wrestling for the WWE.

Cormier defended his heavyweight title on short notice against Derrick Lewis at UFC 230 this past November. The AKA standout submitted “The Black Beast” in the second round, which pushed his unbeaten streak to eight. Despite former champion Stipe Miocic calling out Cormier yet again this past week, “DC” still doesn’t have his next fight scheduled.

Could this new footage be a sign that Brock Lesnar vs. Daniel Cormier could be on the horizon? Let us know what you think.
