Unfortunate news hit the MMA community on Friday when it was revealed that the UFC 206 main event title fight between UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and challenger Anthony Johnson was canceled.
MMA Fighting was the first to report that Cormier was forced to pull out of the five-round title fight against #1 UFC ranked light heavyweight Athony Johnson due to suffering an injury.
“Rumble” took to social media following the news of his rematch with “DC” being canceled.
Johnson tweeted Friday, “Worrying does not take away tomorrow’s troubles, it takes away today’s peace.” Another tweet followed wishing Cormier the best in his recovery. “I wish nothing but the best for DC and I hope you have a full recovery champ…”

MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani also commented on Johnson’s obliteration of the top contenders in the division and his mindset with the champion being unable to fight. Helwani tweeted, “Other issue: @Anthony_Rumble has KO’d #2-5 in the rankings. He’s also always said he’s not interested in interim titles. Fascinating times.”

The UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has had a tough run over the last year as he was forced out of a title defense fight scheduled against Jon Jones back in April at UFC 197 also due to an injury. Cormier and Jones were rescheduled to fight at UFC 200 but that also fell apart days before the event as Jones was suspended for testing positive for banned substances. Cormier ended up fighting Anderson Silva on short notice at UFC 200 where he took a unanimous decision win over the former UFC middleweight champion.
