With Germaine de Randamie bout “unlikely” for UFC 214, Cris Cyborg still plans on fighting July 29
Earlier today rumors began swirling that current UFC women’s featherweight champion Germaine de Randamie was considering vacating her title and possibly retiring from the sport of mixed martial arts entirely.
However, according to GDR’s manager Brian Butler-Au, the current UFC women’s featherweight champion has no plans of retiring but is simply dealing with some issues in her personal life.
“She’s got things going on at home and stuff going on at police academy,” Brian Butler-Au told MMAjunkie. “The UFC’s aware of it, and we are working through it. That’s all I can say at the moment.”
Earlier tonight, Ariel Helwani reported that de Randamie was unlikely to compete at UFC 214 on July 29 in Anaheim.
Re: GDR, her immediate future is up in the air. Not likely for 7/29. Maybe 4th quarter 2017. Even been some talk of vacating. All TBD.

Germaine de Randamie was last seen in action at February’s UFC 208 event where she scored controversial decision victory over former women’s bantamweight title holder Holly Holm thus claiming the promotions inaugural women’s featherweight title.
Following her victory over “The Preachers Daughter”, Germaine announced that she would require surgery to fix a lingering hand injury.
Shortly after that news, “GDR” changed her tune stating that she was willing to rematch Holly Holm, this to end all talks of the controversy in their first contest.
While all this was going on, top pound for pound women’s fighter and former Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg remained busy on social media pushing for her rightful shot at the UFC’s women’s featherweight crown.
Cris Cyborg eventually posted on Twitter that a title fight with Germaine de Randamie had been booked for UFC 214 on July 29 in Anaheim, California.
Unfortunately for fight fans, Germaine de Randamie’s camp was quick to shutdown Cyborg’s claim stating that no bout agreements had been made.
If that wasn’t enough, yesterday Holly Holm took to her Facebook where she posted a two-month-old story about GDR’s desire for a rematch captioning the following:
“Rumor has it that Germaine de Randamie wants to retire. I hope that isn’t true; She is a true warrior, however – I want my belt. Looking forward to a rematch!”
Holm is currently booked to fight Bethe Correia in a bantamweight bout at June’s UFC Fight Night event in Singapore.
BJPENN.com’s Chris Taylor reached out to Cris Cyborg’s camp for a statement following all of the recent rumors and drama. Cyborg’s camp told Taylor that despite GDR’s removal from UFC 214, Cris still plans on fighting July 29 in Anaheim.
I have confirmed with Cyborg's team that despite Germaine de Randamie's removal from #UFC214 Cris still plans on fighting July 29 in Anaheim
