NAC Director releases statement on formal complaint against Conor McGregor & Nate Diaz

UFC 202 press conference chaos

Prior to UFC 202, tensions were quickly rising between Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor ahead of their highly anticipated rematch.

Tensions reached their breaking point when Conor McGregor arrived at the UFC 202 pre-fight press conference nearly half an hour late. That didn’t sit too well with Nate Diaz, who quickly got up and walked out of the press conference. Diaz returned just moments later with his entire team for a mass exodus from the event.

McGregor was quick to state that none of the men would do anything to him, which resulted in the entire Diaz team throwing water bottles at McGregor on stage. McGregor quickly jumped into action himself as he began to throw objects back at Team Diaz from across the room.

The press conference was quickly shut down as UFC president Dana White and UFC exec Dave Sholler regained control of the situation.

Fortunately, the incident didn’t have an immediate effect on the bout. The event proceeded as planned, however Dana White stated that both men would likely be facing repercussions from the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Earlier this week, the NAC has formally filed complaints against both men through the Nevada attorney general’s office. NAC Director Bob Bennett released a statement through MMAFighting in regards to the situation, saying:

“Totally unacceptable. Not indicative of the way professional fighters should conduct themselves. … It showed disrespect for press, fighters, UFC and the commission.”

Hopefully the formal complaint doesn’t result in either man being suspended. Following McGregor’s UFC 202 win over Nate Diaz, it was revealed that the UFC is currently trying to book Conor McGregor vs. Eddie Alvarez for UFC 205, the UFC’s inaugural event at the Madison Square Garden.

Despite that, there has been no formal announcement regarding the lightweight title fight.

Stay tuned for updates as they become available.
