Junior dos Santos gives his pick for Eddie Alvarez vs. Conor McGregor

Eddie Alvarez and Conor McGregor

A historic UFC fight is set to headline the stacked UFC 205 New York card on November 12 at Madison Square Garden.

UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor will challenge UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez for his lightweight strap. What sets this title fight apart from the rest is if McGregor is victorious over Alvarez at UFC 205, he will become the first fighter in UFC history to ever hold two division’s titles simultaneously.

Only two other fighters have ever won UFC championship titles in different weight classes. UFC Hall of Fame legends Randy Couture and our very own BJ Penn have accomplished that amazing feat, but both Couture and Penn were never champions of two divisions concurrently.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos was asked about the big matchup between Philadelphia’s Alvarez and Dublin’s McGregor and gave his breakdown of the lightweight championship fight.

“Man, I think it’s hard that McGregor can beat Alvarez, you know? His last fight against Nate Diaz that was welterweight division but that showed a lot of him,” dos Santos said.

“I think Alvarez will win this fight you know,” dos Santos said of his pick. “I think Conor McGregor is an excellent fighter, he’s really good but Alvarez man, he just beat dos Anjos and dos Anjos was like the best of this [lightweight] division.

“So, man, Conor McGregor, he doesn’t have a history, doesn’t have any fight in the lightweight division,” dos Santos said. “So, there’s no sense for him to be fighting for the title. Ok, I know he’s a great promoter but I think he should test himself before fighting for the title. But, let’s see. It’s gonna be interesting.”
