Conor McGregor’s Jiu-Jitsu coach, Dillion Danis, discusses McGregor’s “personal” announcement

Conor McGregor, Dillon Danis

Ahead of UFC 205, where Conor McGregor will be making his UFC lightweight debut in hopes of capturing lightweight gold when he steps into the Octagon to face UFC lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez, UFC President Dana White has stated that McGregor has a “personal” announcement to make “out of left field”.

While there has been no word from McGregor himself yet as to what the announcement will be, reports have surfaced that McGregor is planning to take time away from the sport in order to help his girlfriend, Dee Devlin, with the birth of their newborn child. In addition, the report went on to state that there was no timeframe given for how long McGregor would be away from the sport for, but fans could expect him to be away for about a year.

During a recent interview with Submission Radio, Conor McGregor’s Jiu-Jitsu coach, Dillon Danis, spoke about the “personal announcement”, saying:

“That’s personal, bdut, I feel he’ll keep fighting, in my opinion. He’s going to go down as the best fighter probably in history. So he could do whatever he wants, really. But yeah, I see him fighting. I mean, he already said that he really wants to do the trilogy with Nate. He said that on record, so he probably does have that fight and stuff. But, who knows. Maybe he wants to fight Mayweather, stuff like that. There’s a lot of options for him. That’s the good thing about him, you know, he has so many options.”

While there has been some speculation as to whether or not McGregor will retire following the bout, and make that his “personal” announcement, like Danis said, the featherweight champ has mentioned several fights he would like to take in the future, likely ruling out a potential retirement announcement.

During the UFC 205 press conference McGregor was asked what his next move would be if he emerged from UFC 205 victorious, to which he responded by stating that after he defeats Alvarez, he could very well see himself making the jump over to boxing for a potential boxing superfight with undefeated boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.
