Back in March, Conor McGregor suffered the first loss of his UFC career at the hands of Nate Diaz, who stepped in for an injured Rafael dos Anjos on just two weeks notice.

Diaz submitted McGregor in the second round after rocking the featherweight champ with a jab-cross combination. Ahead of their rematch at UFC 202 on August 20th, McGregor believes that the loss has reignited a fire within him.

He spoke to Rolling Stone about the bout:

“I entered that last fight [against Diaz] full. I was full in every sense. My plate was full, my belly was full. That’s not why we fight. We originally fight for food, to eat. We fight hungry. So I’m happy with the lessons learned. I feel like my gut has been emptied again. Like I am hungry again.”

In addition, McGregor went on to explain what makes him different from other fighters, and how that’s going to play to his advantage against Diaz in the second fight:

“My unpredictability is what separates me. If you move in so many ways, your opponent is not focused on what he’s doing. He’s focusing in on what you’re doing and it freezes him. When they freeze and you hit, they shatter like glass.”
